Jin Yin Hua (金银花), also known as Ren Dong Hua (忍冬花), Yin Hua (银花), or Shuang Hua (双花), is named for its flowers which start as white and turn golden yellow after 2-3 days, creating a beautiful contrast. The flowering period is from April to July, and the fruiting period is from July to November, found in most regions of China.
Effects and Indications
Effects: Clears heat and detoxifies, disperses wind-heat.Indications: Carbuncles, furuncles, wind-heat colds, febrile diseases, and heat-toxicity blood dysentery.
Modern Research
It has antiviral, antibacterial, antitoxic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic, and lipid-lowering effects.
Common Knowledge
Yin Hua Ju Lan Cha (Honeysuckle and Chrysanthemum Tea)Ingredients: Jin Yin Hua (15g), Ju Hua (菊花, Chrysanthemum, 9g), Zi Luo Lan (紫罗兰, Violet, 6g), honey to taste.Method: Boil water in a clay pot, add Ju Hua, Jin Yin Hua, and Zi Luo Lan, boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes to extract the active ingredients. Serve the tea and add honey to taste.Effects: Clears heat and detoxifies, clears the liver and brightens the eyes.
Shuang Hua Yin (Double Flower Drink)Ingredients: Jin Yin Hua (50g), Ju Hua (50g), Shan Zha (山楂, Hawthorn, 50g), honey (500g).Method: Boil Jin Yin Hua, Ju Hua, and Shan Zha in water to make a concentrated juice, then add honey to consume.Effects: Clears heat and relieves summer heat, suitable for patients with dizziness, sore throat, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, coronary heart disease, and purulent infections.
Jin Yin Hua Infused WaterIngredients: Jin Yin Hua (10g), honey to taste.Method: Place Jin Yin Hua in a large bowl, add 300ml of boiling water, steep for twenty minutes until flavorful. Let cool slightly, add honey, and drink.Effects: Clears heat and detoxifies, protects the liver and strengthens the stomach, regulates qi and resolves stasis. Effectively eliminates cold symptoms, promotes gastrointestinal digestion, and helps expel waste and toxins from the body.
Jin Yin Hua with Egg
Ingredients: One egg, Jin Yin Hua (15g), 200ml of water.
Method: Beat the egg into a bowl, boil Jin Yin Hua in water for 15 minutes, strain to obtain the juice, and pour over the egg, consuming while hot.
Effects: Consuming Jin Yin Hua with egg can be used to treat wind-heat and cough symptoms.
Warm Reminder
Jin Yin Hua is cold in nature; those with a weak constitution, weak spleen and stomach, women during menstruation, frail elderly, and infants should consume it with caution.
