Observing the Sublingual Collaterals
Daily observation of the tongue can eliminate diseases in their nascent state.
After examining the tongue’s body, coating, and distribution, we observe the sublingual collaterals.
The main observations of the sublingual collaterals include their length, thickness, color, and blood vessels.
This is the normal appearance of the collaterals.
If the collaterals appear thick, engorged, or exhibit a bluish-purple or dark purple color, it indicates the presence of stasis of blood.
If the collaterals are thin and short, with a pale red color and surrounding small collaterals that are not prominent, it often indicates deficiency of qi and blood.
